Healthy eating means consuming right quantity of food and equal proportion of minerals and proteins. A good diet is a nutritional lifestyle that promotes good health. A good diet must include proportionate amount of proteins, vitamins, minerals. When we are eating the food is another important factor. Taking a heavy breakfast helps controlling body weight and lower the risk of developing heart diseases, high cholesterol and diabetes.  According to the nutritionists there are five main food groups- whole grains, fruits and vegetables, protein, diary, and fat and sugar.

Fruits and Vegetables

It contains high vitamins, minerals and fiber which is important for our body. Fruits and vegetables protects from developing heart disease, and cancer. We should consume five portions of fruits and vegetables each day preferably fresh. A portion means either one large fruit, for example a mango, banana and apple. You can also have a glass of fruit juice.


We need protein for the building and for repairing of tissue in our body. Meals which are protein rich also contains vitamin B, zinc, magnesium, iron. Some of the source of protein which you should keep in your diet plan are as follows- meat, egg, fish, poultry, beans, nuts, soya. You should always trim and drain the fat away after cooking. You should take fish at least twice a week. Grill meat and fish is much more healthier than a fried fish. Vegetarian can add seeds, nuts, soya beans.

Dairy Products

Dairy products are good source of calcium and which gives you a healthy bones and teeth. Dairy products are the milk, curd, yogurt, paneer, cheese. We should add low fat dairy products in our diet plan for example cottage cheese, cream etc. Vegetarians can opt for cabbage, broccoli, soya milks and yogurts for their calcium intake.

Sugar and Fats

We should consume products which contains less fat and sugar. Things like sugar, chocolate, cakes, biscuits, butter, jam, mayonnaise, margarine, non-diet sodas etc. There are basic types of fats- saturated and unsaturated. Vegetable oil and oily fish are rich in unsaturated fat, while products like cream and fried foods are high in saturated fats.
